FLOAT’S FAR
EAST FLANEUR
ON FILM
Greetings from the Far East (Flaneur) on Gunaikurnai Country – where we have been walking, biking and kayaking our way through lakes, seaweed-like tentacles re-emerged from receded lakes, forests and floodplains – mapping this part of the world with our feet, our hands, our eyes, our noses and very much our tastebuds.
We flaneur-ed with artists – some of whom were even ‘walking artists’, poets, storytellers, musicians, and regenerative tourism practitioners (thank you @regen_gippsland !). Met local other forms of artists and architects (see Flaneur cabin from @greenstudio.au ) and even ones staying on FLOAT’s artist in residence (who was using sounds from an underwater hydrophone to make her prints to?! @bridget.hillebrand which we even took a boat out to see…)
Our minds were expanded again and again through conversation and imagination, our hearts with our travelling community and our capacity to do hard things that made us smile (i.e. dawn 20km kayak in the rain – how beautiful? How cold? – wasn’t too bad).
With limited phone reception at times, we woke inviting whatever the weather had decided to do. And with our growing flaneur attitude we came to unravel our need to know where exactly we were going, what exactly we were doing when, and started to move with a kind of ease and trust in the collective movements of our travelling ensemble of wonderful humans and non-human life.
Andrea and co from @float.3909 and the wonderful surrounding community of East Gippsland weaved an itinerary that many apparently quoted as being ‘mad’ – and did so in a way that inspired us to see what communities can do when they band together and make epic things happen.
